We are have a responsibility to safeguard junior and adults who are experiencing come out or at risk of, abuse and neglect.
This policy and procedure outlines what safeguarding is and what we do if we have a concern.
Policy statement
Peterstone Lake Golf Club is committed to creating and maintaining a safe and positive environment for all people involved in golf. It accepts its responsibility to assist in the welfare of all the people and to safeguard them from poor practise abuse and bullying.
All individuals within Peterstone Lakes Golf Club – players, members, volunteers and staff have a role and responsibility to help ensure the safety and welfare of everybody.
Peterstone Lake Golf Club accepts that it's required to fulfil our duty of care, which means we must do everything that can be reasonably expected of us to help safeguard and protect people from harm, and to act when we suspect that somebody is being harmed, or is at risk of harm
What is safeguarding
The official definition of safeguarding individuals is working with them with care and support to keep them safe from abuse or neglect. It is an important part of what many public services do at a key responsibility to the local authority (Care Act 2014)
The safeguarding duties applied to individuals who:
- Has needs for care and support
- Is experiencing or is at risk of abuse or neglect
- Is unable to protect themselves from either the risk of, or the experience of abuse or neglect, as a result of those care and support needs
Individuals can have a need of care and support for various variety of reasons - for example they may have learning disabilities, a physical disability, a chronic health condition or a mental health issue. Such conditions may bring them with additional vulnerabilities, however having care and support needs, does not mean that the people are automatically at risk of needing safeguards.

Types of abuse suffered by individuals identified in the Care Act 2014 are:
- Physical
- Sexual / Mental
- Neglect and act of omission
- Financial
- Discriminatory
- Organisational
- Modern Day Slavery
- Domestic Violence
- Self Neglect
other types of harm adults may experience include;
- Cyber bullying
- Forced Marriage
Safe recruitment and safeguard training
We want to make sure that all our staff have the correct skills and qualities to create a safe environment. All staff will be subject to a safe recruitment process and will also be updated with any relevant legislation, policies and procedural changes.
Communication
Peterstone Lakes Golf Club will make available its safeguarding policy and procedures to all staff and members this will be displayed on the notice board.
What to do if you have concerns regarding an individual
Club members and staff are not expected to be experts in recognising of safeguarding concerns, however, all employees have a duty of care to be vigilant and respond appropriately to suspicions of poor practise, abuse of bullying. They should also respond to any indications of abuse that may be occurring outside of the Golf Club setting.
This does not mean that they are responsible for the siding if the situation is poor practise abuse or bullying but it is their responsibility to report your concerns to the Welfare Officer.
If you cannot contact somebody within the organisation or feel that your concerns are not being dealt with properly, you may contact the local authority safeguarding team at cardiff.gov.uk or ACT the national safeguarding organisation www.anncrafttrust.org
